Note: This project is one of the most meaningful experiences from my M.Des course and holds a special place in my heart. As a team, we focused on the Anganwadi system in Chirag Delhi, aiming to identify and address unsustainable practices. It was an honor to see our work recognized as a winning entry in the D'source Design Challenge, organized by IDC School of Design IIT Bombay, Dsource, and Designindia.net, with support from the MHRD Govt of India and other global organizations. This competition inspired us to explore how design can contribute to achieving the 17 SDGs, making the world a better, more sustainable place.

This project examined the Anganwadi system in Chirag Delhi to find ways to improve its effectiveness and sustainability.

An open-ended discussion with the AWW and AHW revealed the following data points:

In order to have a wholistic view of what indiscrepencies are affecting the efficiency of an Anganwadi Centre, a Causal Loop Diagram was prepared to map out the whole system.

The system clearly demonstrates 2 major factors that reduce the efficiency of an AWC, which are:

After the finding out the main areas of indiscrepency, a brainstorming session was held with the team members.

After brainstorming, the ideas were then sorted into undoable, somewhat doable and doable ideas&nbsp;

With the doable ideas in consideration the team revisited the system in order balance the reinforcing loops.&nbsp;

Solution 02: A system to implement consumption of fresh food everday

Research revealed that the West Bengal Government has implemented a system where fresh food is cooked daily at Anganwadi Centers (AWCs). Cooking essentials like oil, rice, pulses, and salt are distributed in bulk every 2.5 months. However, Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) must purchase fresh supplies such as spices, vegetables, and eggs daily with their own money. These expenses are reimbursed by the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) approximately every 3 months.

A video call with an Anganwadi worker from Siliguri, West Bengal, highlighted new challenges within this system, which are explored further in the study.

The conversation revealed data points which helped build the following experience map.

Based on the experiences shared by Anganwadi Workers (AWW) and Helpers (AWH), we identified that many of their pain points could be addressed through the Poshan Tracker Application. The application has the potential to be highly efficient if the following system is implemented.

Use cases considered based on the proposed direction are as followed:

Two interfaces have been designed: an updated one for AWW and a new platform for shopkeepers. Grocery and LPG booking features have been added to the Poshan Tracker for AWW, and a new shopkeeper interface called the Poshan Deliver&nbsp;Application has been introduced to streamline the process.

The color theme and design language of the new flows should align with the existing theme to avoid user confusion. Introducing a new theme could make it harder for users to adapt to the updated flow.
